Violinist and fiddler Kyra Davies’s work encompasses a wide range of repertoire and styles, from Scottish fiddle to contemporary classical music to arena performances with pop and rock artists. Established as an interpreter of contemporary music, she regularly performs and records with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and has appeared with other new music groups including [~Switch Ensemble], Sound Icon, Ludovico Ensemble, Semiosis Quartet, Hub New Music, and the New England Conservatory Contemporary Ensemble. Kyra was a member of the Britten-Pears Contemporary Ensemble in Aldeburgh, UK, and the Brevard Music Center’s new music ensemble, itch. As a chamber and solo musician, she has performed at venues and concert series including the Lake George Chamber Music Festival, Spectrum (Brooklyn, NY), Oh My Ears (Phoenix, AZ), Re:Sound Festival (Cleveland, OH), New Music Gathering, AEPEX Contemporary Music Series (Ann Arbor, MI), and Outside the Box Boston.
Kyra also works as an orchestral musician with Opera North, Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Portland Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, New Hampshire Music Festival, Monadnock Music Festival, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, and New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared onstage with pop, film, and video game music artists including The Who, the Eagles, Andrea Bocelli, Game of Thrones Live, Hans Zimmer, Il Volo, and Josh Groban.
Also in demand as an educator, Kyra has been in residence for performances and master classes at Boston College, Colby College, the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Brandeis University, MIT, Roger Williams University, and the University of Michigan. She coaches chamber music with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras.
Kyra is also the 2025 New England Regional Open Scottish Fiddle Champion. As part of Mrs. Wilberforce, her duo project with Sean Smith, she is a frequent performer at the annual Boston Celtic Music Festival, and has also appeared at Gore Place (Waltham, MA), Cherry Street Music (Newton, MA), Cadenza (Freeport, ME), Boston City Winery, and the New Bedford Roots and Branches Festival. In the 2025 season, together with fiddlers Gwen Johnston and Julia Connor, she gave a performance of Irish music at WBUR’s CitySpace.
Kyra graduated from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University at age 20. She received further orchestral training at the National Orchestral Institute, National Repertory Orchestra, Music Academy International (Siena), and the Castleton Festival Orchestra. Her teachers have included Kenneth Goldsmith, Robert Eshbach, Eric Rosenblith, Kazuko Matsusaka, and Ronan Lefkowitz.
